The days are cold but there is hope

The days are cold but there is hope

by Ntando Sibanda

Waking up to uncertainty
To the cold days,
To the cold nights,
I see no hope!

I feel the pain of unemployment,
The trauma of not knowing whether tomorrow will be better,
Oh yes! the days are cold,
The nights are quiet,
Still, I see no hope!

I feel like the walls are closing in,
The loneliness is creeping in,
Despite being surrounded by family,
But COVID has made us prisoners.

Life has become a boring movie’
Playing the same episode over and over,
Day by day the informal sector is crumbling;
Hustling isn’t “the it” thing anymore;
The strongest will survive,
Oh yes! the days are cold.
The nights are quiet!

But… today, there is hope at last!
The vaccinations are being rolled out,
It’s our chance to take a stand;
A stand for a future only we can determine!

The days are cold but there is hope
If we vaccinate cases may be few,
We can go back to normalcy;
It’s worth a try! it’s worth all the effort!
We can beat this virus!
